Synthetic Drugs

n_bomb

N-BOMe, commonly referred to as “N-bomb” or “Smiles,” is a powerful synthetic hallucinogen sold as an alternative to LSD or mescaline (a hallucinogenic drug made from a cactus plant). There are several variations of this drug, but 25I-NBOMe, often shortened to “25I,” is its most abused and potent form. Effects of only a tiny amount of the drug can last for up to 12 hours or longer.

amph

Amphetamines stimulate the central nervous system and the sympathetic part of the peripheral nervous system. Experts say that amphetamines enhance the synaptic activity of three neurotransmitters – dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine.

Amphetamine effects are similar to those of cocaine. However, when used under the supervision of a doctor, they can help the person focus and feel more awake. They also reduce appetite, which can be useful in some cases of obesity.

Flakka–more formally known as alpha-PVP and sometimes known as “gravel”–is a synthetic “bath salt“; it is a mix of one or more chemicals that mimic the effects of an amphetamine-like stimulant. Flakka can be introduced into a person in multiple manners; smoking, snorting, placing it under one’s tongue, vaping, and injecting all deliver the drug and trigger its effects.

KROKODIL

The medical name for the drug is desomorphine. It is made at home by acquiring codeine, sold over the counter for headaches, and cooking it with paint thinner, gasoline, hydrochloric acid, iodine and the red phosphorous from matchbox strike pads. The resulting liquid is injected into a vein. The high from this drug lasts 90 minutes to two hours, and it takes about a half-hour to make the drug. So a krokodil addict does little other than get the ingredients and cook up the drug.

Methamphetamine is a white crystalline drug that people take by snorting it (inhaling through the nose), smoking it or injecting it with a needle. Some even take it orally, but all develop a strong desire to continue using it because the drug creates a false sense of happiness and well-being—a rush (strong feeling) of confidence, hyperactiveness and energy.
