SPICE IS NOT NICE was founded in May, 2013 by Ruth M. Rivas after the untimely death of her son, Adam Hernandez, due to his use of Spice, synthetic marijuana.  By using her 17 years of experience as an Educator, Ruth has made it her personal mission to prevent further harm and death from synthetic drugs.

The purpose of SPICE IS NOT NICE is to raise the public’s awareness of the risks and the consequences of synthetic drug use.  We provide a 45 – 60 minute educational power point presentation for students of all ages, parents, and school personnel.  Presentations are available in Spanish. Credit hours can be earned for attending our training:

  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) for Drug Prevention Specialist, Counselors and Social Workers
  • Substance Abuse Training in IAW AR600-85 for Soldiers
  • TCOLE for Texas Law Enforcement Officers

Our presentation will reduce the likelihood of first time use or continued further abuse by pulling back the layers of misconceptions and lies concerning the safety of synthetic drugs and reveal the ugly truth about the horrible and deadly consequences these drugs can cause.

We utilize a Science-Validated Prevention Program which:

  • Eliminates or reduces the risk factors
  • Addresses synthetic drug use
  • Tailors presentations for specific audiences
  • Teaches drug education and information
  • Reinforces anti-drug attitude
  • Strengthens personal commitment against drug abuse
  • Aims presentation at key transition points
  • Reaches populations in multiple settings—school, clubs, faith based organizations
  • Employs interactive techniques in learning—discussion and role-play
  • Provides Staff Development
  • Cost effective—each dollar invested in prevention is a savings in treatment
